 | | Artist's Statement
In my work, objects suggest an assemblage. The assemblage grows through memories, experiences, and emotional states. Objects are my medium. They are used in an abstract way as color and shape to create a new object, hopefully bridging my inner spiritual life and guidance with the material universe. I create work with spiritual energy, mystery and sometimes humor. These are qualities I've admired in great art I've observed through the years.
Recurrent themes I've used in my work are my home life and childhood, feminism, consumerism, spirituality and recreating self.
I start a sculpture by choosing one or more objects. (Something gleaned from a resale shop, given to me by a friend or something I found under the sofa.) These objects have a strong attraction to me, because on a subconscious level they are my memories, my experiences, and my emotions. Other objects are brought together with the original ones and transformed into a very personal work of art. Sometimes I will use an object in an abstract way but in the end the objects seem to have entered into the work for some divine propose. The muse works in mysterious ways.
In making art I feel I am bridging my inner spiritual life and guidance with the material universe. I endeavor to create work imbued with spiritual energy, mystery and humor.
